Hispanics Of Today and Tomorrow (HOTT) of Emporia, KS, was founded by just six members back in 1998, with the intention of providing scholarships to high school students of Hispanic heritage. Today, almost 25 years later, the organization has awarded over $104,000 in scholarships to aid students of Hispanic heritage in their pursuit of a college degree.
HOTT has been able to provide these educational funds to our Hispanic community through local sponsorships and the proceeds from two cultural events that HOTT hosts every year, Cinco de Mayo and Dia de los Muertos.
These events filled with live music, traditional foods, and family fun offer a culturally immersive educational experience that serves a population size of about 77,000 people in the surrounding Lyon County areas.
HOTT encourages and educates Latino leaders who want to make a difference in the local community, while embracing their culture and heritage. Lastly, we contribute and partner with local community organizations to support and deliver programs and events that can create a stronger Emporia.
Cinco de Mayo: Commercial Street is filled with music, food, dancing and vendors from the morning to evening hours to commemorate this annual holiday. Scholarship recipients from the prior year are recognized as this event.
Raíces Hispanas Grupo Folklórico: Our very own dance group performs Mexican Folklorico dances and other various dances at local and out of town events throughout the year.
If you would like to be a part of this amazing group or would like for Raices Hispanas to perform at your event contact: Sally Sanchez at 620-366-1094.
Cinco de Mayo Candidates: Each candidate commits her time by volunteering and appearing at community events to help raise scholarship funds.
Young ladies ages 13-20 who are Interested in running for Cinco de Mayo queen/reina can send an email to: hottfiesta1@gmail.com
Dia de los Muertos: La Catrina, sugar skulls and brightly colored banners and costumes fill downtown Emporia during this annual Dia de los Muertos celebration of the lives of those who have passed.
Scholarship Program: Scholarships are awarded each year to eligible graduating high school seniors of hispanic descent that reside in the Emporia area.

Since establishing the H.O.T.T. Scholarship program nineteen years ago, we have awarded $107,000 in scholarships to graduating Hispanic Emporia High School seniors. We couldn’t have accomplished so much without the tireless work of the Cinco candidates at our annual Fiesta in downtown Emporia, and the generous support of our sponsors:
